Marvin Reid Estes, age 93 of Marshall, Arkansas died on April 6, 2024. He was born in Statesville, North Carolina on June 25, 1930 to Ernest Lee Estes and Lottie Eugenia Messick Estes. He was married to his loving wife, Mary Lou Newell Estes for 71 years.

Grant Received for Shirt Factory

On Tuesday, April 9 the City of Marshall and Searcy County as the US Economic Development Administration announced a $1.675 million grant for renovation of the old shirt factory main factory floor in Marshall for a frozen food manufacturing company that will produce for retail sale. Initially look to employ 70-80 people. This couldn’t have happened without the strong work of Searcy County Judge Tony Horton and the Quorum Court, major grant writing support from Jeremy Ragland, Joe Willis and team at the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. and the Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce. Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliot was also involved in the effort and “Appreciates all the work of all the participants to bring us needed jobs!” Judge Horton is also very excited for the needed jobs. The chamber of commerce has been pursuing a food industry business for more than two years, culminating in this announcement. The old shirt factory production floor has been closed since 2019.

1st Choice Home Care Grand Opening

On Friday, March 29 1st Choice Home Care of Marshall held their grand opening at their location on 101 East Nome Street in Marshall. They served a lunch of hotdogs, chips, and drinks. There were raffles, prizes, and of course information about their program. Their mission is to provide companionship, while giving dignity and respect to maintain their client’s independence. They help their clients with daily activities like personal hygiene, meal prep, medication reminders, mobility, errands, bathing, and many more living activities they may have.
