South Mountain/Nubbin Hill news

April 24, 2024 Well, as I sit here tonight writing a little bit, they talk like we will be getting some much needed rain. I hope we get rain this time, we really do need it. It might come a flood. This weather is really something. Last week it frosted here again. Killed most of Ray’s garden that was up. It was 34 degrees here! We had carried the pots in the house that had little plants up, but what else can you do? So Ray has planted again this week! Guess he should have waited a while, but he just can’t wait when he thinks spring is here.

After waiting for internet for five years, we finally have it at The Old Snowball House! I’ve yet to get to really try it out because I haven’t been there yet, but I’m so excited to try it out! I’ve only heard good things about it. If you haven’t gotten yours, be patient, it’s coming!

We have had a few light rains which will help our gardens some, I think more rain is in the forecast so I hope this helps even more. St. Joe news

Bought potting soil, 5 bags and the man said he’d be out to load it. I waited but he didn’t come so loaded it myself and was about to leave when he came out. He apologized and I left. Got almost back to Yellville when I realized I’d loaded 6 instead of 5. Explained what happened the extra was unloaded. Not stealing a bag of dirt. I’d take a lot more than that. But very happy getting plants potted.

2024 North Arkansas Ancestor Fair

There will be an Ancestor Fair in 2024. The Searcy County Historical Society is preparing to host the 33rd North Arkansas Ancestor Fair Friday and Saturday, May 31and June 1, 2024 in Marshall, Arkansas. Sometimes described as a place to brag on your ancestors, it is a gathering of family genealogists and historians–and just plain interested folks–to share genealogical and historical information–and old family stories–about families and communities. Historical/ genealogical societies, libraries, family historians and descendant organizations help researchers (or seekers) with information not commonly on the Internet. Visitors from all over the country learn from locals about their forefathers. In 2022 a man from Hawaii met the daughter of his father’s best friend. He was amazed at the number of people who knew his family’s history.
