SC Received Historic Preservation Grant
In June of 2023 Searcy County was notified that they would be receiving a Historic Preservation Grant in the amount of $203,000..00 plus to the restoration of the County Court Office. They will be restoring the steps and replacing the doors with the original wooden style doors and a small awing and rails will be place along the steps on the west end of the courthouse. Construction should start on Monday April 29. Their office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and their plans include some beautification landscaping after construction work is completed.
Mississippi man sentenced
On April 10, Trent Robert Laupp, age 59 of Gulfport, Mississippi, entered a negotiated plea of guilty in the Searcy County Circuit Court to the charges of possession of controlled substance schedule I/II. The charges stemmed from a traffic stop earlier this year, where Laupp committed a traffic violation.

Virginia Lee Sutterfield, age 93 of Marshall, Arkansas died on Friday, April 19, 2024 at NARMC i n Harrison, Arkansas. She was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on June 24, 1930 to Lonnie and Susie Williams.

Sue Geoghagan of Marshall
Sue Branscum Geoghagan, 77, of Marshall, died April 25, 2024, at her home. A native of Marshall, she was born the elder child of Willis Sutterfield Branscum and Lawdon Branscum.

Barry Woods of Leslie
Barry Lawrence Woods, age 80 of Leslie, Arkansas died on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 7, 1944 to Howard and Emily Woods. He was married to his sweetie, Sharon Elaine Woods for 59 years.


K-9 Asan Assists Marshall PD with Traffic Stop
On Tuesday April 16, 2024 Shortly after10 PM Officer Dustin Rosenberger with the Marshall Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Chevrolet truck. During the traffic stop, the driver was identified as Latricia Fitzwater. During the traffic stop investigation Officer Rosenberger was assisted by his K9 partner Asan. Asan alerted to the presence of narcotics. During the investigation suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located. Fitzwater was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine along with misdemeanor and traffic offenses.
