JAMES STEPHEN HORTON
James Stephen Horton, 67, of Conway, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2025. He was born September 30, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Bennie Wayne Horton and Dean Tindall Horton Treat.
Steve was a 1975 graduate of Conway High School. He attended the University of Central Arkansas and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He held various positions in business management and accounting throughout most of his career at Tiffany Manufacturing, Fairfield Bay Community Club, and Focus Laboratories.
Steve accepted Christ as his Savior at seven years old while attending church camp. Later in life, he experienced a deeper transformation in his relationship with Christ and reaffirmed his decision to follow Jesus as Lord of his life.
Steve was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Conway and a children’s leader at Bible Study Fellowship. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks, and spending time with family at deer camp over the years. Steve loved the Lord and his family most of all. He treasured time spent with them (especially his grandchildren).
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bennie W. Horton, and his brothers, Phillip K. Horton and Ronald T. Horton.
He is survived by his mother, Dean (Leo) Treat of Conway; son, Matthew (Tiffany) Horton of Conway; daughter, Allyson (Scott) Merriman of Greenbrier; nine grandchildren that he loved dearly, Kallen (Justin) Boyett, Braeden Horton, Shelby Horton, Gracen Horton, Tenley Horton, Caden Merriman, Cohen Merriman, Asher Rotten, and Graham Rotten; brother, Michael (Christi) Treat of Conway; sisters, Sherry (Eric) Williams of Quitman and Lisa (James) Lockridge of Conway; as well as many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 3, at Central Baptist Church in Conway with Pastor Michael Treat and Pastor Don Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at Canaan Cemetery in Marshall with Pastor Jeremy Horton officiating.
Pallbearers will be Joe Horton, Harrell Tindall Jr., Jerry Tindall, Jim Tindall, Dennis Schultz, and Brad Winfrey.
We are heartbroken, but we take comfort in the words of Jesus in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”
