Around Our Town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. Wow what a turnaround the weather has been. It was very cold last week with single digit temperatures and this week has been just lovely, with warm sunny days and temperatures in the upper 70’s. So Spring is springing a little bit but actual astronomical Spring is not until March 20th this year. So there is still plenty of time for more Winter weather. A cold snap could happen at any minute as a friend once said the last Ice Age started with a cold day.

Old Town St. Joe

I have some bad qualities, one I speak my mind when a lot of the time I should keep my mouth shut and two I like to tease people and a lot of the time the teasee takes it the wrong way. I can say things to people and not crack a smile. This causes me a lot of trouble and I would rather bite my tongue than to apologize. Why am I telling you this? I have no idea.

Keeping the Farm Together

What should happen with our farm when we’re gone? We hear so much about small farms going under or selling out. We don’t want that. Our son says he’ll stay and keep working. Our daughter has moved away. How can we treat both children fairly? ____________________ Careful planning provides a variety of options to suit your situation. We can help you choose, and we can draft the legal documents to set up the best result for everybody. You will want to treat both your children even-handedly. That doesn’t necessarily mean equally, because your son has contributed to the farm’s value with his labor and talent. You could leave the farm to him, and leave your daughter your personal property and your bank, insurance, and retirement accounts. We will help you transfer the farm in a way that fits. Exactly how depends on your situation. If your wife’s and your health is good, you could put the farm into an LLC and a trust.
