Grassy Gap news
Hope that everyone had a good week. Larry is getting more wood up as David is making a new fence row. Thanks David. We have had a lot of wind and it is cold here. I put up my Christmas tree but I do not have everything on it yet.

Dear Editor, I was throwing snowballs to the Christmas parade crowd and felt my wedding ring fly off of my finger. The shock and horror of what had just happened took a minute to register as I completely stopped my vehicle (effectively stopping the parade!). A couple of kind by-standers approached my vehicle to find out what was wrong. I figured my ring was gone, and I knew I couldn't start searching for it, but the gentleman discovered it on the ground and returned it to me. I am SO VERY VERY GRATEFUL to them. I didn't even get a good enough look at them to know whether or not I know them, so I am asking the newspaper to post this 'Thank You' in hopes that they will see it!
On Monday, December 4 a new World Record chocolate roll shipment by aircraft was set as Cooper and Allen Williams picked up 1,500 chocolate rolls from the Searcy County “Buffalo River” Airport-4A5, in Marshall. In Dec 2020 “Operation Chocolate Roll” involved picking up a special cargo of 500 chocolate rolls by pilots Allen Williams and his son Cooper Williams as they flew into the Searcy County “Buffalo River” Airport-4A5, Marshall AR from Jonesboro. Allen is the Region Market President of First Community Bank. During automobile trips through Searcy County in the past, he noticed the “Chocolate Roll Capital of the World” welcome sign. One day he stopped at the Shell station in Leslie and discovered they had chocolate rolls. He bought several. This time the chocolate rolls will come from Sharon Lewis again but at the Red River Cafe of Leslie! In 2020, when thinking of a unique homemade gift to give out, Williams thought of chocolate rolls. Williams instructed Kembralyn Redman, AVP Business Development Officer, to contact the chamber of commerce in Searcy County to find chocolate rolls. Redman chose Sharon Lewis from a list the chamber gave her and placed an order for 985 chocolate rolls at the Leslie Shell! The order was later rounded up to 1,000! The first shipment of 500 was picked up by aircraft. It was the world’s largest known airborne shipment of chocolate rolls in history, until Monday, Dec 4. They flew them to Jonesboro for delivery to First Community Bank as Christmas treats. The 361 pounds of chocolate rolls were baked by Sharon Lewis of the Red River Cafe of Leslie. Sharon is a five-time World Champion Chocolate Roll Baker from the annual Chocolate Roll Festival and Contest in Marshall. Searcy County is the Chocolate Roll Capital of the World!
Good morning, and welcome to December. Can you believe the holidays are rapidly approaching? Let’s get on with the news...
Last Thursday I went to the Mountain Wave office. I visited with Leisa Younger there. I went to church. They need help to decorate for Christmas there. I visited with Sam and Sheila Massey and Melba Ward and Janice Horton and Barbara West there. Everyone did a great job.
Craighead County residents have recently reported receiving calls from a scammer falsely identifying himself as a law enforcement officer. To make this ruse even more believable, the caller ID spoofs the sheriff department’s phone number, so it looks like the call is coming from the authorities. The caller demands their victim pays over the phone with a prepaid gift card to avoid arrest.
I hope everyone is doing ok. The weather is a little cool, but I guess we will see cooler weather before the winter is over.
There’s no place like home . .
Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. We have had such beautiful Deep Fall weather this past week. We have had some overcast days, but we have also had some glorious days of sunshine. The kind of sunshine that bursts through the clouds and it looks like the gates of heaven have opened up and shining down on the Earth. We have had a few of those days this week. Days that start off very cold, overcast and frosty end up having the sun burst through the clouds and warm everything. You can tell that we are on the way to winter weather the days are so short and the temperatures are getting colder and we are expecting a cold, wet winter. So say the wooly worms, persimmon seeds and foggy days of August, and the weather man.
Hope that you had a good week. Larry brought some more wood to the house. It was cold on the mountain and really windy. The truck that Larry uses to get the wood the tie- rod end came down. He had to get it fixed so he can use it again.
