Newbie no more

Setting roots I dug up some thornless blackberry bushes for a couple of friends this week. The first year we moved here, I set out some transplants from our other house, just a few. Soon, they declared their intentions to take over Searcy County and beyond by making long arching canes with long arching shoots and everywhere they touched ground, they planted a new blackberry bush with the same intentions. It was hard to be very upset because they are, in fact, thornless, and the berries are huge. But even my high toleration for chaos has its limits, so I strung some wire and got some very cheap, very handy clips to secure those wild canes.

Martin Box 2

A few lines from my side of the Martin Box. It has been a busy week around our house. There were about thirty of us that had Thanksgiving dinner at Jeanie and Chads. Everyone pitched in with their favorite dish, Jeanie cooked a ham and I cooked a turkey for the feast. Lots of delicious desserts. The day was beautiful, and the guys enjoyed riding their scooters. Dru Ann and Maddie got in on the rides too. It was a great day. J.C., Sherrie and Myke Lewis, Zack, Benton and A.J. All joined us for the day.

Big Flat Buzz

Good morning, and welcome to December. Can you believe the holidays are rapidly approaching? Let’s get on with the news...

Welcome Home and Bear Creek news

Last Thursday I went to the Mountain Wave office. I visited with Leisa Younger there. I went to church. They need help to decorate for Christmas there. I visited with Sam and Sheila Massey and Melba Ward and Janice Horton and Barbara West there. Everyone did a great job.

Washington Update

Craighead County residents have recently reported receiving calls from a scammer falsely identifying himself as a law enforcement officer. To make this ruse even more believable, the caller ID spoofs the sheriff department’s phone number, so it looks like the call is coming from the authorities. The caller demands their victim pays over the phone with a prepaid gift card to avoid arrest.

Marshall news

I hope everyone is doing ok. The weather is a little cool, but I guess we will see cooler weather before the winter is over.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. We have had such beautiful Deep Fall weather this past week. We have had some overcast days, but we have also had some glorious days of sunshine. The kind of sunshine that bursts through the clouds and it looks like the gates of heaven have opened up and shining down on the Earth. We have had a few of those days this week. Days that start off very cold, overcast and frosty end up having the sun burst through the clouds and warm everything. You can tell that we are on the way to winter weather the days are so short and the temperatures are getting colder and we are expecting a cold, wet winter. So say the wooly worms, persimmon seeds and foggy days of August, and the weather man.

Grassy Gap news

Hope that you had a good week. Larry brought some more wood to the house. It was cold on the mountain and really windy. The truck that Larry uses to get the wood the tie- rod end came down. He had to get it fixed so he can use it again.
