South Mountain/Nubbin Hill news

Thursday 26th –November 1st Hello to each of you. Hope this finds you doing well. I’m doing pretty well. I had back surgery on the 26th and ended up having to stay the night. My oxygen level was a little low. Ray and Susan were there with me, but Ray came home and Susan stayed the night with me. But on Friday I got to leave, and I stayed at our daughters Susan house in Conway. She took care of me Friday and Friday night. Aaron came home for the weekend and Noah came over Friday evening and again Saturday for a little while. It was so good to see them both! Ray came down then on Saturday and Susan had made a big pot of chili so we all had a late lunch and then Ray brought me home. It was good to get back home!

Grassy Gap news

Hope that everyone had a good week. Monday was a nice day. I have been moving my flowers into the greenhouse for the winter. I have a lot of flowers to move and it will fill my greenhouse. Larry helped me move all of my plants Sunday. It rained most of the day and it was cold. Larry turned on the heat. Larry put antifreeze in all of the cars and trucks.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Bananas are a versatile fruit that can be eaten right off the bunch or utilized in a bevy of recipes. Despite being characterized as the first ÒsuperfoodÓ endorsed by the American Medical Association in the early 20th century, bananas are avoided by some people. Some claim that bananas make people gain weight or develop constipation, but many medical organizations point to the nutritional benefits of bananas, which contain potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, fiber, and manganese. A bananaÕs flavor starts out as mildly sweet and gains more sweetness as it ripens. Very ripe bananas, or those that have brown speckled skins, donÕt need to be discarded. They make perfect additions to baked goods, notably banana bread. Before tossing out brown bananas, consider this recipe for ÒChocolate Chip Banana BreadÓ courtesy of Jenna Barnard and the Butternut Bakery Blog.

St. Joe news

Neighbors brought pears, pear butter in the future. Will be good for Christmas. Someone, somewhere, at some time told me how they liked pear butter. Never forgot the comment but forgot the who. Will be good to be making jelly, jam and butters again. Peaches, blackberries and strawberries in freezer. Love jelly making. Maybe I’ll remember or someone will tell me it was them who wanted pear butter.

Newbie no more

Our River The Buffalo has a lot to do with me being here today and many of the big decisions in my life. I grew up on bayou-type streams in southern Arkansas and I love them, too. But the Buffalo and the Ozarks stole my heart since my parents started bringing me here as a baby. A couple of canoe trips later as a young adult and I decided I just had to live up here amongst the Ozarks and near the river. On the first day in my new job in Harrison, I met Danny and the rest has been long, good history. The Buffalo taught us a lot about marriage in our early days. We were doing Boxley to Ponca in flood and both of us wanted to paddle from the stern. Both of us were cocky, never having turned over in a canoe, and proud of it.

Snowball news

November!?!? Where has time gone? It seems like we have breezed right through fall and winter is HERE! At least for a few days, by the time you get to read this, things will probably be warmer, or at least more fall like.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. You can really tell that the seasons have changed with the weather we have had this past week. It got really muggy and warm then it started to gently rain, then more rain, then colder rain then a lot of rain in a very short time then it turned very cold.. We got our first hard frost this past week as well so it has been a sampler of weather this week.
