Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks. Leslie, Arkansas. It has been really lovely Autumn weather this past week, not too cool in the mornings and not too warm in the afternoons. It is, however, going to get very cold soon. For a very chilly Halloween.

Helpful Hints

Every year, an estimated 76 million Americans get sick because of food borne illness and more than five thousand people die from it. But those numbers could be lowered if people heeded the “2-hour food rule”.

SC Fair Board

The Searcy County Fair Board met on Monday October 16th at 6:00PM at the EH Building. Old business includes that the EH Building and Fine Arts building are continuing to be rented out for private events, yard sales and vendor events. Also, discussions on barn improvements are currently on hold due to lack of funding currently.

Snowball news

Greetings from Snowball! We’ll start with the tough stuff this week, condolences to the family of Betsy Cash. She was the daughter of Brough Cash, who was the principal at the Snowball School.

Witts Springs news

Fall has arrived. The trees are putting on their brilliant colors, reds, gold, yellow, oranges interspersed with the greens of pine and cedar. The acorns have mostly fallen. The nights are getting cooler, and most days are warm enough to be very nice.

South Mountain/Nubbin Hill news

October 25th Hello to each of you, hope you are doing well. Ray and I are doing fine. We are both enjoying this lovely weather. I think we better enjoy while we can, they talk like it is going to rain this weekend, which is a good thing, and then turn cold Monday. Well, I don’t much like the cold, but I guess that’s okay. I hope we get a good rain!

Newbie no more

The Fall Today was The Fall. It didn’t feel like it, not one bit. The thermometer hit 80 and it’s as humid as spring. But somehow, despite no real rain for something like 6 weeks (8?), the colors are dramatic. One little Amur maple in a raised bed has been really putting on a show like never before, which tells me I should have been giving it more water during the summer months since, at least this last summer, it had some decent rainfall. But today the leaves really got serious about falling, looking like a heavy rain, and quickly piling up in yellow drifts on the patio and other maples making red drifts, ankle deep in the yard.
