Newbie no more

The Fall Today was The Fall. It didn’t feel like it, not one bit. The thermometer hit 80 and it’s as humid as spring. But somehow, despite no real rain for something like 6 weeks (8?), the colors are dramatic. One little Amur maple in a raised bed has been really putting on a show like never before, which tells me I should have been giving it more water during the summer months since, at least this last summer, it had some decent rainfall. But today the leaves really got serious about falling, looking like a heavy rain, and quickly piling up in yellow drifts on the patio and other maples making red drifts, ankle deep in the yard.

SC Judge Signs Proclamation to Show Support

On Monday, September 16 Searcy County Judge Tony Horton signed a proclamation in support of Chamber of Commerce Week. The event is being held in Arkansas the week of 15-21 October! Chamber Director Darryl Treat accepted the proclamation.

Elliott Graduated to Game Warden

Devin Elliott of Marshall recently graduated in the E-1-23 Game Warden Cadet Class of Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The ceremony was held in Conway, AR on September 8, 2023 at the Antioch Baptist Church. Elliott will be stationed in Madison County Arkansas as Game Warden.

Meeting to Address Speculations about the BNR

Around the week of October 9, there were several entities involved in discussing ideas about The Buffalo National River. One of the private industries discussing these ideas was Runway. They participated in conversations around an idea of the New River Gorge going from a national river to a national park. The idea was to transition the Buffalo River to a National Park. Krista Cupp Vice President of Corporate and Community Affairs for the Runway Group stated, “There is currently no legislation and nothing in writing.” For this legislation to pass it would take an act of congress from the federal government.

SC Masonic Association holds Banquet

On Saturday, September 30 the Searcy County Masonic Association held a banquet to present awards to masons and community members at the Charles D. Daniel Civic Cener located in Marshall. Several awards were handed out during the banquet. R.W. Bro Shawn Casto presenting the Pillars of Solomon Award to Brothers Kim Loftin and Randy Hazelwood. Brother Randy Hazelwood received the mason of the year award. Master of Witts Springs Lodge Bro. Dennis Drewry presented Brother Kim Loftin certificate of appreciation. Master of Calf Creek lodge Bro. Keith Karnes presented Johnny Smith certificate of appreciation. Jasper lodge presented Bro GC Blair an engraved cutting board as a token of their appreciation for Bro Blairs work in masonry. Eddy Horton presented Pam Cannada Eastern Star of the year award.BrotherKimLoftin presented Loretta Blair certificate of appreciation for Witts Springs Community. Today is Thursday. I wish Fanny Smith a happy birthday and many more. God bless you. Bonnie Marker visited me. I went to the Mountain Wave office. I visited with Leisa Younger at the Mountain Wave office. I stopped at Harps. I visited Gary West there. I called and talked to Fanny and her daughter. They were okay. They ate pizza some place in Harrison. Her daughter and two kids are going back to Branson, Missouri tonight. They stayed all night in Branson. They are going home to a different state on Friday.
