How Parents and Educators can Work Together

Parents and educators alike aspire to help students perform their best in the classroom. An effective parent-teacher partnership can go a long way toward helping children reach their academic potential. With that goal in mind, parents and educators can employ the following strategies as they seek to develop a strong working relationship.

3 Tips to get a More Restful Night’s Sleep

There is no magic formula to ensure long-term health. However, if there were such an equation, sleep would be a critical component. Though adults may be able to function with less sleep than doctors recommend, the National Institutes of Health note that consistent lack of sufficient sleep can interfere with work, social functioning and driving ability. The National Institute on Aging notes that adults of all ages generally need the same amount of sleep, typically between seven and nine hours of rest per night. That’s an important distinction, as busy adults in mid-life might feel as though they can operate on less sleep without adversely affecting their overall health. However, in addition to the problems noted by the NIH, the NIA reports that ongoing lack of sleep, or even consistently poor sleep quality, can increase risk for cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, and obesity. Adults who feel their sleep quality is poor or those who aspire to sleep more each night can consider these three strategies to ensure a more restful night’s sleep.

Searcy County Humane Society

The Searcy County Humane Society is a local shelter for stray and dumped dogs. When dogs are brought to the shelter’s attention, whether that be someone calling it in; another shelter in need; or a dog being left at the shelter, it is Tina Oliver’s job to complete health checks. Tina Oliver is the current manager of the Searcy County Humane Society. Health checks consist of getting the dogs their required shots including rabies, heart worm tests, the medications that they need, as well getting spayed or neutered. The dogs are then able to be adopted or they are sent up north to Massachusetts.

How to Make the Most of Your Local Library

Local libraries are invaluable resources for residents, including students and their families. The value of libraries has been recognized for far longer than many may realize. The Franklin Public Library, opened in 1778 in Franklin, Massachusetts, is considered the first lending library in the United States. Since then, libraries have become integral components of communities across the nation and even the globe.

Old Town St. Joe

In 1927 boys in high school may be 16 or 26 years of age and sometimes older. Men dropped out often to join the military and when they finished their years of service, returned home and returned to school and took part in the school sports program. Many of these men had no idea or care of what the rules of the game were. On July 4, St. Joe and Pendall played a baseball game during the independence day celebration. They played with crude equipment. Bats were homemade or sticks, or 2×4s. The balls were homemade so they were soft and wouldn’t be hit very far. Usually these games were played without gloves. Before long, bats were swinging and fists were flying until someone yelled “Grubs on”, which meant food and alcohol.
