On Saturday, March 22 the 12th annual Marshall High School Chocolate Roll Festival took place. The MHS Chocolate Roll Festival is where bakers compete to see who the World Champion Chocolate Roll Baker is. In Marshall, a “chocolate roll” refers to a unique, small baked chocolate pie or pastry, a signature dessert of Searcy County, known for its rich chocolate, butter, and sugar filling, and flaky crust. Chocolate rolls are a beloved and cultural dessert in Searcy County, Arkansas. The chocolate roll has become a signature dish of Searcy County, also known as the “Chocolate roll Capital of the World”.
Hi everyone, today is Thursday. It is fair and cold this morning. Today is Shaquille O’Neal’s birthday. Kathy and her family went to Harrison. Kathy went to the doctor and stopped at Walmart.
Why should I worry about making a will? I don’t own much and there’s enough going on in my life anyway. I’ll just let the kids sort things out when the time comes. It should be no big deal.
I obviously did not live through the Dust Bowl days, but I can only imagine the last week of Windy days were very similar. The loose dirt on my path to the barn is gone, the floor had been swept clean inside the old chicken house and all the vehicles have a layer of dust on them. I asked our Texas relatives to come get their dust, but they haven’t shown up yet, so I think we’re on our own.
Different cultures have always been important and interesting to me due to the fact that my mother was a Spanish teacher and interacted with students from many different cultures. I also have had different interactions with people from different cultures in my lifetime and I wanted to continue that trend by majoring in international studies with a minor in Spanish during my time at college. I think one of the best ways to introduce yourself to other cultures is through food. It allows you to relate to something from the other culture and who doesn’t love a good meal. Because of my mom’s experiences and my own experiences Hispanic cultures are very important to me therefore I have provided you with three recipes from different Hispanic cultures to help provide readers with a little taste of a different culture.
Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the Jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. First let me start by saying our hearts go out to the folks affected by the recent tornadoes in Arkansas and Missouri the weather in the Ozarks is no joke and can turn in an instant and in this case most deadly especially in Cave City. So needless to say the wind has been relentless this week. They say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, I am waiting for the lamb part. After the intense storms that spawned the tornados that brought with it some much cooler temperatures. We did not get much rain considering how rough the storms were but the rain we did get was muddy from the dust storms in Oklahoma that blew in with the storms passing through. All in all the weather has been insane here.
It turned a little colder today. I didn’t get outside to do anything. I hemmed Morgan’s dress for her and cut out some outfits to sew up. Once I get a lot to cut out, I’ll take off sewing. I hate cutting out patterns. I’m looking forward to sewing again though.
