Sheila’s News

Yesterday I went to check on Bo and Polly. When I was going home I saw some wild turkeys in Mike Baker’s field.

Never Cut a Den Tree

Psalm 91: 1-2 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”

Memories and Meals – Snacky Saturday

I don’t know about you guys, but I am a huge snacker. I love snacks. I love savory and sweet as well as spicy and sour. I would much rather have multiple small snacky meals throughout the day than have three large meals a day. There is nothing better than having a homemade version of a childhood store-bought snack, which always ends up tasting better than the store bought version.

Old Town St. Joe

The cold days and nights made me think of the days gone by when the sub-freezing days didn’t just last a week but the entire winter. You put your water bucket on the wood stove at night to prevent it from freezing but the next morning it was frozen anyhow. Zero degrees and the trip to the outhouse during the night was a trip across the North Pole.

Politics in the Ozarks

The Searcy County Historical Society will meet Friday, March 28, in Marshall’s First Christian Church at 7:00 pm. The guest speaker will be Dr Brooks Blevins, Southern Missouri College, author of many books about the Ozarks, including about Searcy County. He has been a very welcome speaker in the past for the Searcy County Historical Society. His topic will be about politics in the Ozarks, especially Searcy County’s. For the better part of a century and a half after the Civil War, the political affiliations across the Ozarks were dictated by the events of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Using lots of maps of presidential elections, Blevins explains the political divides in the Ozarks between Republican and Democrat counties and explores the gradual decline of the Democratic Party in the region. All are invited. Coffee and nibbles will be available.
