For the last couple of months Marshall has been inundated with construction. So far, this construction has gone smoothly with few issues apart from the cold and wet weather. This has allowed for the original early April completion date to stay the same.
The Searcy County Historical Society will meet Friday, March 28, in Marshall’s First Christian Church at 7:00 pm. The guest speaker will be Dr Brooks Blevins, Southern Missouri College, author of many books about the Ozarks, including about Searcy County. He has been a very welcome speaker in the past for the Searcy County Historical Society. His topic will be about politics in the Ozarks, especially Searcy County’s. For the better part of a century and a half after the Civil War, the political affiliations across the Ozarks were dictated by the events of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Using lots of maps of presidential elections, Blevins explains the political divides in the Ozarks between Republican and Democrat counties and explores the gradual decline of the Democratic Party in the region. All are invited. Coffee and nibbles will be available.

Hello everyone, hope you’re enjoying this warm weather we’ve been having. I noticed my tulips are beginning to come up. I can’t wait till everything has bloomed out.
The cold days and nights made me think of the days gone by when the sub-freezing days didn’t just last a week but the entire winter. You put your water bucket on the wood stove at night to prevent it from freezing but the next morning it was frozen anyhow. Zero degrees and the trip to the outhouse during the night was a trip across the North Pole.
