Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. The weather has been just lovely for the past few weeks here in the Ozarks. We have had the usual spring weather, of very cold mornings and warming up a little during the day, but cool and the breeze is just right, and you can smell the spring in the air. We did get a little frost in the bottoms here, but, up on the hill where I live, it did not get that cold.

Nice cool spring weather this week with some rain mixed in. At least everything is turning green and flowers blooming. Some of mine have come up not many. I bought myself some seeds; I like the seeds so I can sow them and see how much luck I have. My mom and Aunt Berlene Ragland could just about plant anything and they would come up. My great Aunt Nervie Pack had a great idea of just sowing her front yard with pretty flower seeds and it worked. She didn’t have to mow either. She too was a Bohannon on mom’s side of the family. Besides it was so pretty and colorful and made it inviting to visit her.

Snowball news

It was a busy day in Snowball Saturday! The weather was a bit dreary, which I think had people that would have normally been floating, driving around checking things out. Randy and Judy McCutcheon hosted the Natural State Overland group at their place over the weekend for their annual spring rendezvous and bonfire.

Hi all on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. The wind seems to be gusty but staying inside we hardly noticed it. I watched the hummingbirds most of the afternoon. These little guys are so amazing. Each year the “scout” comes to the front porch where we keep one feeder, and tells us it’s time to fill the feeder.

Grassy Gap news

Hope everyone had a good week. Sunday was a nice day. David came up and cut his grass at his house. When he was done, he brought his mower up and cut the grass at my house. Thanks David. Larry has to get new blades for my mower. One of them broke. Soon I hope. I need to mow the grass down at Tammie’s house.

April 30th: Hello out there, hope this finds you all doing well. Today is the last day of April, and I’m glad. I hope the month of May is a little warmer! I’m sitting here with a jacket on and a blanket around my shoulders! Maybe it’s just me, but I am usually cold sometime in the day, morning or evening. I have the heat on but can’t turn it up too much cause then Ray is too hot. It’s a never-ending battle. One or two nights this past week it was down in the 30s’, we had frost twice. One night it got a little bit of the garden, but hopefully it will be okay. Ray covered up the tomatoes and we brought a few pots in the house, but a few still got frost bit.

I have had more orioles this week. There are two pairs of Baltimore Orioles, two pairs of orchard orioles, about four immature male birds. I still have only four or five hummingbirds, but the temperature is still a little cool. Online states the average time hummingbirds come to Arkansas is usually late March or early April. Maybe there are just more folks feeding them than there used to be. I usually have 25 or 30 birds. A few years ago when we had a late freeze and I started feeding the hummingbirds there were probably 100 of them. They were so loud, when James came in from being gone, he thought there was a motor running on the patio.
