Hope that everyone had a good week. Monday, we had ice all day and boy was it cold. Larry did all the feeding, so I did not have to get out in it. The electric went out around 8: P M. Larry started the generator so we would have a light. I fixed and sewed some clothes. I still have Tammie’s blouse to go.

Martin Box 2

Finally, it seems most of the snow and ice is about gone. The last two weeks have been interesting to say the least. First a 12inch snowfall then the next week a huge sleet. No one got out for the first part of the week! I was finally able to return to work on Thursday. We were able to open the Searcy County Senior Center on Friday for lunch. I’m not a winter person, so I’m done with winter for this year.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. Harsh winter weather paid another visit this week with a lot of sleet that turned to a sheet of ice over everything outside. So everyone got a few more snow days this week. By the weekend however it was warm and sunny, and the ice retreated with very warm 60 on my front porch.

Witts Springs news

Today, Sunday, Is like a spring day. The temperature as I am writing the news is 56 degrees. Most of the ice and snow is gone. It is a beautiful day outside. There are some things I could do outside, but it is to wet. I put up a bird feeder stand the other day and hung the two suit feeders I had on it. I have not seen the birds on the feeder, but there are signs they have been coming out for some food.

M & N A Railroad Strike

Dr Kenneth Barnes, history professor at UCA, will give the program at the January Searcy County Historical Society meeting on Friday, January 27 at Marshall’s First Christian Church. His topic will be about Searcy County’s involvement on both sides of the 1922-1923 M & N A Railroad strike. Dr. Barnes has also authored a book about the Ku Klux Klan in Arkansas that was active at the same time as the strike. There was interaction between the two and Searcy County was involved. Dr Barnes will have copies of his Ku Klux Klan book at the meeting if anyone would like to purchase a signed copy.

Hope that everyone had a good week. I have been working on a few things that were broken. I have worked outside for the last three days. I can really tell it. Larry has been real sick this past week. He has a bad head cold that went down in his lungs.

By the time this paper comes out we may have another snow, at least that is what the weather forecasters say. This is Sunday afternoon; we’ll see what falls in a few days. Last night I did hear a little bit of sleet falling. Winter is not over yet!
