Good afternoon, everyone. This is Wednesday and has rained about all morning. It rained pretty hard part of the time. I think we are supposed to get up in the morning to cooler temperatures. The first half of January has been pretty nice and we have enjoyed that.

Rolen Around the Bend

This week’s adventures were slightly stressful. Last Monday my eldest daughter had an altercation and was assaulted on the bus by another student. Yes, I contacted the school and all the appropriate channels. I’m allowed to say that everything is being taken care of.

It’s coming I started my late winter pruning a little early this year. I have an upcoming surgery with some really humorless restrictions after surgery, so when spring gets here, I will be a spectator in spring instead of being an active (think frantic) participant. It isn’t a big deal, but when they were through with the list of all the things not to do, that was the big deal.

Greetings from Snowball! As I sit and type this out on Monday morning before 6 AM, KY3 news is sharing the news of an impeding winter storm. By the time you possibly get your paper, you’ll have trudge to the mailbox in 8 inches of snow. Snowball will be snow covered!

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. Well, this week in weather has been really up and down we have had several days of really sunny days where if you were out of the wind, you could really enjoy being in the sunshine. Like I said if you are out of the wind which was very sharp and cold. We had a couple of rainy days that were warmer. We still ran our wood stove just to keep it cozy and warm in the house.

M & N A Railroad Strike

Dr Kenneth Barnes, history professor at UCA, will give the program at the January Searcy County Historical Society meeting on Friday, January 27 at Marshall’s First Christian Church. His topic will be about Searcy County’s involvement on both sides of the 1922-1923 M & N A Railroad strike. Dr. Barnes has also authored a book about the Ku Klux Klan in Arkansas that was active at the same time as the strike. There was interaction between the two and Searcy County was involved. Dr Barnes will have copies of his Ku Klux Klan book at the meeting if anyone would like to purchase a signed copy.

Hope that everyone had a good week. I have been working on a few things that were broken. I have worked outside for the last three days. I can really tell it. Larry has been real sick this past week. He has a bad head cold that went down in his lungs.
