Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. Well, we have another cold, rainy week under our belt this week. It has been very cold at night and not too much warmer during the days. We even had a fire in the woodstove a couple of days this week. There have been times this week when the sun has come out and the light that burst through the clouds, it is just glorious. As the saying goes April showers brings May flowers.

I once read a book titled, It Was on Fire When I Lay Down on It, by Robert Fulghum about people doing really stupid things, knowingly. I’m about to do a stupid thing, knowingly. I’m about to plant my tender vegetables. Late spring freezes have left me emotionally scarred for life, so I know you don’t, you don’t ever, EVER plant before Easter. Even so, tomatoes, eggplant, and my one lone squash are going in the ground today.

South Mountain/Nubbin Hill news

Well, this is Sunday night, April 10, and it looks like we are going to get more rain and even a few storms in the next 3 days. That’s what the weatherman has talked about now for several days. Hope it doesn’t storm too much! Last week on Tuesday night the phone alarms and the scanner all went off and woke us up with tornado warnings. Usually, I sleep through a storm and probably would have that night if the alarms hadn’t been so loud. We got up to see what was going on, and we had lots of hard rain, and some thunder and lightning, but not really a storm here. We got about 1 and ½ inches of rain. We stayed up until about 2:00 am and then went back to bed. You just never know any more what’s going to happen.

Hi friends! We have had a nice day around our place, hope you have had a nice day too. The redbuds are in bloom as well as the Bradford pear, which have my allergies in an uproar, but I plan to be better soon.

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. What a cold, wet, rainy, yet sunny week we have had here in Leslie this week. It seems to be the perfect weather for everything to bloom. If my allergies are any measure of the pollen count. One of my neighbors has an ornamental pear tree that is just beautiful in the spring with the white flowers, and it is stunning in the fall when the leaves turn orange then a bright red. I truly love to see that tree do its thing all year long. It is the first of spring that this beautiful pear tree and I dare say all other trees give me fits with my allergies from their pollen.

I’m not sure how to start this week’s column. One, I’m out of practice, and two, how do I follow Susie and Jacque? Susie knew everything that was happening in the community and Jacque referenced songs. I’ll do my best! Thank you, ladies, for covering for me!

The March 7, 1930 paper told of an unfortunate accident that had happened to Mrs. S C Greenhaw. While returning home from town Mrs. S C Greenhaw had the misfortune of falling from the sidewalk on the hill near the town water tank. She sprained her left ankle badly. She was assisted home in the College Addition as the injury was quite severe and painful. She was deterred from doing any housework because of the injury. Her young daughter Miss Bonnie was with her at the time, but was unable to prevent the accident from happening. I am wondering where the water tank was at that time. At one time the tank was up on Backbone Mountain, but previously I believe I read that the tank was near the Heard residence near Range Street. I will certainly be watching the old papers to see what I can find out.
