Annual Drive for Fair Book Ads

The Searcy County fair has started the annual drive for fair book ads. This is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Fair. The funds generated during this drive allows for improvements to the fairgrounds, and enhances the funds from the department of agriculture and provides for a venue for the 4H and FFA activities for the youth of Searcy County. The deadline for fair book ads will be May 1, 2025. The people at the Searcy County Fair thank you for your continuing support for the youth of the Searcy County Fair.

Memories and Meals – Cultural Cooking

Different cultures have always been important and interesting to me due to the fact that my mother was a Spanish teacher and interacted with students from many different cultures. I also have had different interactions with people from different cultures in my lifetime and I wanted to continue that trend by majoring in international studies with a minor in Spanish during my time at college. I think one of the best ways to introduce yourself to other cultures is through food. It allows you to relate to something from the other culture and who doesn’t love a good meal. Because of my mom’s experiences and my own experiences Hispanic cultures are very important to me therefore I have provided you with three recipes from different Hispanic cultures to help provide readers with a little taste of a different culture.

Memories and Meals – Snacky Saturday

I don’t know about you guys, but I am a huge snacker. I love snacks. I love savory and sweet as well as spicy and sour. The Cozyhome Connection

2 Corinthians 5:17. This week we are meeting another longtime resident of our amazing community – Brooks Middleton. Brooks hasn’t always lived in Cozy, but she was born in Searcy County. She shared the story of her birth, stating, “I have the right to be a little strange and very tough!” She was born in May 1942, and it had stormed for nearly two weeks. A neighbor was to be her mother’s midwife but was unable to get there after all the storms, so when labor pains started, they loaded her mother onto a mattress in the back of a pickup and drove her to the doctor at Leslie. The doctor’s office was on the second floor, so she had to walk herself up the stairs. After the exam, the doctor said it would be hours before the baby (aka Brooks) arrived, so he was going to get a haircut. Within fifteen minutes strong contractions necessitated that her husband, Brooks dad, deliver her. As the old saying goes, ‘that baby will come when it is good and ready’!
