“There Went the Sun” in SC

On Monday, April 8 marked a momentous day for Searcy County and everyone in the Nation. The Eclipse started around 12:50 p.m. and ended around 3 p.m. People were lining the streets, parking lots, lawns, etc. from all around the U.S. to watch this amazing historical event. The last time a total solar eclipse happened in North America was in 2017 but it was only a partial eclipse for some. The next total solar eclipse will be in 2044 for North America. The next lunar eclipse will be in March of 2025.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. I would like to say again how really awesome the solar eclipse event was. The weather could not have been more beautiful than on the day of the eclipse. There was not a cloud in the sky and it was warm and sunny. Observing the eclipse was great fun and with the eclipse glasses that were available it made it even more spectacular to watch nature in action. I can see how the ancient ancestors, not knowing what was happening standing in awe of this amazing astronomical event. It was very striking to me how the sun was shining one moment and then seemingly in a flash disappear into night. In just an instant poof the lights went out. You could see the stars and the planets. Even Mercury, which is so close to the sun that it cannot be as easily observed under normal circumstances. The birds and other wildlife became very quiet. You could feel the temperature difference when the eclipse was in totality. It was so moving that the folks that were observing the eclipse with me applauded. One dear old friend gave me something to think about during this once in a lifetime event. He Said, “Think of eclipsing war and shine the light on peace.” So that is where my thoughts were at the time.

Rocks A photo shoot took us today to an area with a large, apparently longestablished rock business. Before we got to that exact spot, I had noticed that all the houses for a few miles were sided with rock. It makes perfect sense, of course, durable, beautiful, and apparently plentiful. Scattered throughout the Ozarks are the “giraffe houses” with a unique style of rock that looks a bit like a giraffe’s colors, hence the name.

“ONE THING IS NEEDFUL”

If this was vital when Jesus come to Martha & Mary’s home at His first coming, how much more should we take time to listen to Jesus in 2024? Nothing we were involved in on Earth will seem important one minute after we breathe our last breath of air here. The needful thing here now decides our final abode throughout eternity, salvation or damnation of the soul.
