Grant Received for Shirt Factory

On Tuesday, April 9 the City of Marshall and Searcy County as the US Economic Development Administration announced a $1.675 million grant for renovation of the old shirt factory main factory floor in Marshall for a frozen food manufacturing company that will produce for retail sale. Initially look to employ 70-80 people. This couldn’t have happened without the strong work of Searcy County Judge Tony Horton and the Quorum Court, major grant writing support from Jeremy Ragland, Joe Willis and team at the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. and the Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce. Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliot was also involved in the effort and “Appreciates all the work of all the participants to bring us needed jobs!” Judge Horton is also very excited for the needed jobs. Snowball news

We made it through the eclipse! We survived the lack of gas, toilet paper, and food. I’m kidding, we did make it through and I’m not aware of any shortages of any goods. I think overall the event went well with the biggest issue being traffic! Traffic looked like a busy interstate from a big city on Monday! We spent over two hours attempting to get back to Harrison.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. I would like to say again how really awesome the solar eclipse event was. The weather could not have been more beautiful than on the day of the eclipse. There was not a cloud in the sky and it was warm and sunny. Observing the eclipse was great fun and with the eclipse glasses that were available it made it even more spectacular to watch nature in action. I can see how the ancient ancestors, not knowing what was happening standing in awe of this amazing astronomical event. It was very striking to me how the sun was shining one moment and then seemingly in a flash disappear into night. In just an instant poof the lights went out. You could see the stars and the planets. Even Mercury, which is so close to the sun that it cannot be as easily observed under normal circumstances. The birds and other wildlife became very quiet. You could feel the temperature difference when the eclipse was in totality. It was so moving that the folks that were observing the eclipse with me applauded. One dear old friend gave me something to think about during this once in a lifetime event. He Said, “Think of eclipsing war and shine the light on peace.” So that is where my thoughts were at the time.
