This week I met Chad Whitstine. Chad is a very interesting resident, a ‘transplant’ as some would call him, but a historian who truly loves this land. Like some others I have written about previously, he and his wife Kim actually own property in Marion County but the only access to their home is on Cozahome Road.

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the Jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. What a really rainy monsoon season we have had this Spring, with several days of rain each week. The mornings are cool and lovely, the afternoons have been getting a little warm for my liking. The humidity has been really high so just the least amount of heat makes for a steamy oppressive kind of heat, so our air conditioners are already being used. It has been a nice long Spring this year so far but we are barreling headlong into Summer.

Graduations are almost over, and many are starting their new beginnings – either at jobs or higher education. Let’s remember to encourage them as they start forward and not let disappointments cause regrets or second-guessing to sneak in! The weathermen are starting to forecast hotter temperatures and less rain so maybe the okra will finally start to grow and the peppers and tomatoes can start blooming. Ozark Homesteading Workshops Share Farm-ways, Food and Fun at the Ozark Folk Center

The Ozark Folk Center State Park Craft Village will host Ozark Farmways Homesteading workshops Friday and Saturday, June 27 & 28, 2025. Workshops include Composting for a Healthy Garden; How to Sharpen Your Knives; Using Goats, Sheep & Chickens to Reclaim Land; Make Your Own Sauerkraut; Donkey Power in the Ozarks; Weave a Rag Rug; Herbal Bug Repellents; History, Herbs & Healing; and more. For a schedule, look on the website at OzarkFolkCenter.com. There is no preregistration required. The regular Craft Village admission fee covers all workshops. The Village is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
