A major portion of the North American population is composed of people who are actively serving in the Armed Forces or those who once did. USAFacts reports the military included 2,079,142 military personnel and 778,539 civilians as of September 2023. In 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated there were 15.8 million veterans in the U.S. In Canada, the 2021 Census of Population found that 97,625 Canadians were serving in the Canadian Armed Forces while 461,240 Canadians were characterized as veterans.

Greetings from Snowball! We just wrapped up the 5 Snowball Adventure Race last weekend. There were 31 individuals and two teams of 3 that participated. Everyone had a great time, even when they accidentally ran down the into the Slay Branch field.

Ozark Mountain School District Facing Hard Decisions

Jess Knapp, Principal of St. Joe and Bruno-Pyatt Elementary Schools, provided the Marshall Rotary Club an engaging discussion of current challenges that small rural school districts are experiencing. He was prepared to talk about a new reading process the schools have implemented. But the group’s interest in the issues surrounding the OMSD took over the conversation. He was invited back at another date to discuss the reading process implemented by the schools. Mr. Knapp gave some school demographic info. The Ozark Mountain School District (OMSD) is spread across 3 counties (Searcy, Newton and Marion). Students, parents and taxpayers in three counties with three different cultures surrounding each school present a unique challenge.

The Cozyhome Connection

I found my first yellow squash bloom this morning, but the nights have been so cool, very little of the rest of my muddy garden is making progress. These on-again, off-again rainy days are certainly growing the grass though! Seems every time the sun does come out, it’s time to mow again. Cozyhome Church has stayed consistent with attendance in the mid to high 20’s - never the same group attending, but God is always there! If you need a church home, check us out. Our ‘rocking chair church’ is worth the drive!
