Newbie no more

I just don’t understand why our ancestors thought this state was inhabitable in the first place. And they moved here before anyone ever thought of air conditioning. Maybe they arrived in October. October in Arkansas is nice. Maybe they then got busy building nice log cabins for their family and breaking ground for farming, and by the time the blast of summer arrived, and they saw what they gotten themselves into they were too dug in to leave.

Snowball news

Buffalo National River as I remember it about 80 years ago

Part Seventeen: We had milk cows and plenty of milk, cheese, and butter. Mom was always very adamant about cleanliness when handling food. She used a special cloth for straining milk. She washed it separately, rinsed it well, and dried it for the next time. She washed the milk buckets separately from the dishes, rinsed them well and put them away. They bought Christine lard and Karo syrup in gallon buckets. When the lard or syrup was gone, Mom cleaned the buckets and used them for milking. Mom saw water seeping out of the hillside near the front of the house. She pounded and poked around in the rocks until she had a hole back far enough to insert a pipe, and Wa La she had running water. She dug down and sat a fifty-gallon barrel under the pipe and we had water ten steps from our front door. It supplied enough water for laundry, drinking, washing dishes, and cooking.
