Newbie no more

What has worked in the garden and what hasn’t. OK, I have to say, like many of you, one thing that has worked in the garden has been me. I have worked in the garden, more or less successfully, so there’s that, but I bet everybody knew that gardens are work, and largely the effort pays off. Maybe not in everything (more on that below), but on the whole. The rest of this is a saga on my various efforts and experiments in case it helps somebody else, or at least shares their misery.

Snowball news

Happy Fourth of July! I hope everyone had a safe holiday and come out with all ten fingers and no wildfires. The hay season seems to be coming to a close, or at least to the hauling portion. I don’t know how many bales went by the Snowball General Store on Saturday. I hope we get some rain soon to help the grass grow back to hopefully get one more cutting.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. It has been hot and dry this week. We have not had rain in several days. So, we are anxiously waiting for some rain. It has been hot but not unbearably hot like has been. With no rain the humidity is not as high as it has been making the sweltering heat feel less sweltering.

Drunk driving campaign underway in SC

This July 4th, as we celebrate America’s independence, the Searcy County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) want to remind drivers that Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving. Unfortunately, too many people think that driving after a few drinks is acceptable. The numbers say otherwise: In 2020, more than 200 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes over the 4th of July holiday period. That’s over 200 people who could have made it home if everyone had planned ahead for a sober ride. If you celebrate Independence Day with alcohol and decide to get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you aren’t just putting yourself in danger; you put everyone on the road at risk. Plan ahead for a safe and sober ride every time you drink. Stay safe for the people in your life — loved ones, parents or children, your buddies. Drive sober to protect them and to protect yourself.
