Legislative Update

Since 2010, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has helped raise more than $1.1 billion to fund more than 675,000 scholarships for students attending 51 Arkansas colleges and universities. This week we want to remind you about the fastapproaching deadline to apply for the next round of scholarships.

Washington Update

In 1722, when French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bernard de La Harpe and his crew were exploring by way of the Arkansas River, they came upon what they called “La Petite Roche” or “The Little Rock” on the south bank of the river. This “little rock” became a landmark for travelers and gave The Natural State the name for its future capital city.

A sea of colorful flowers adorning graves all across the Corning Cemetery in my hometown last Sunday afternoon prior to Memorial Day was visible proof that people care about it and more importantly their loved ones buried there.

Good morning. Welcome to June! Daddy is back in the hospital. He needs to have surgery on his heart before he can have the other procedures he needs. We are awaiting his being transferred to the heart hospital in Little Rock. Right now, he is in Batesville. Granny went with us to visit him yesterday. He was so happy to see her!

Witts Springs Fishing Contest Winners

On Saturday, June 4 Witts Springs held their Second annual fishing contest. There were several entrants for the contest. Lorenzo Rivera won 1st place in the Bass category with a 2 pounder. Jerimiah Beckwith won 1st place in the perch category. Samuel Beckwith had the most fist. He had 20. Hannah Beckwith had a small bass. The prizes were rod and reel with a zip lock baggie of accessories and some money. Hot dogs and marshmallows were enjoyed after the contest. Everyone had a good time. Prizes were donated by Baker’s Pharmacy, Riley Cooper Tires, Duane Yancey, and Roy Hodges (the Barber).
