It’s morel season, or should be, if they actually exist. I have spent a considerable amount of time looking for them where any self-respecting mushroom would want to grow. Like last year’s search, when I looked for morels and found a groundhog, this year I have searched (and searched) and I have found beautiful wild irises, two different stands of cardinal flowers, some huckleberries about to bloom and acres upon acres of poison ivy.

I truly hate the new nozzles on gas cans anymore. Then they go from bad to worse. I finally ordered some of the old timey ones which worked great. As with most things, newer isn’t better, just alot more work.

South Woolum Road closed for repairs

The Buffalo National River Park Service issued a statement that due to the erosion of the road, South Woolum Road (SC 14) had been closed. It is currently unsafe for vehicle travel but there is an alternate route that can be taken. This access is by way of North Woolum Road (SC 15), and it can be accessed through Highway 65 near Pindall. The National Park Service and Searcy County is working together to reopen the road as soon as possible but there is no timeline presently.

Chamber attends Civic Leader Tour

On Saturday, April 14 the Searcy County Chamber of Commerce and Civic Leaders attended the Great Civic Leader Tour at Little Rock AFB set up by Major General Joseph Wilson (Retired.) The tour visited the Arkansas Air National Guard’s 189th Airlift Wing and the 223rd Cyberspace Operations Squadron. Joining General Wilson were State Senator Missy Irvin, Searcy County School District’s next Superintendent Valorie McCleary, Searcy County School Board member Susan Housley, Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce Board Member Billie Reed, Buffalo River Historic Jail Museum Director Bob King, Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce Board Member Wayne Witcher and wife Carol, Dew Line Dairy Owner Grace Pepler, Greater Searcy County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Darryl Treat, Forge Institute CEO Lee
