Winter Assistance available

Ozark Opportunities, Inc. still has funds for the Winter Non-Emergency & Crisis Energy Assistance Programs, both non-emergency and crisis, available until Friday, April 29, 2022 at 4:30 PM. The Programs’ goal is to assist low-income households cope with the high costs of fuel for heating their homes in the winter months. This is a one-time assistance payment per program and program year. See below for contact information.

Highland Court hold Easter egg hunt

On Tuesday, April 12 Highland Court Rehab and Resident Care Facility held their annual Easter egg hunt around the grounds of the facility located in Marshall. Children and parents/ guardians gathered for cookies and juice as they waited for the egg hunt to commence. While they were waiting, they took the opportunity to take their picture with the Easter Bunny and a marshmallow Peep. The residents of the facility gathered on the porch area to watch the festivities. The children were separated by age group and when the time came, they quickly started to gather plastic eggs. There were various prizes to be won if they found the special eggs or plastic chocolate-colored bunnies. Each age group had one bunny to be found and the prize was a $25 dollar Wal-Mart gift card and an actual chocolate bunny.

Three airlifted following accident

On April 7, Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell stated a white Toyota Tacoma driven by John Gibson of Leslie, was traveling south on Rail Road between Marshall and Leslie at what authorities believe was a high rate of speed before crashing and injuring four individuals. Cassell said after crossing the intersection of Rail Road and Ice Plant Road, the vehicle left the roadway on the west side of the road and struck a tree head on.

SC Library supplies learning tools In August 2021 the

In August 2021 the Searcy County Library received a ARPA grant in the amount of $10,000. Since the grant was awarded, library has been updating some technology to improve the education for all grade levels in the community. They have DVDs on a variety of subjects, interactive toys, DVD players, and headphones available to check out. Go and check out the new collection of educational material. Cyber bullying reported in SC

On April 3, the Searcy County Sheriff’s Department learned of a cyber bullying incident involving multiple juveniles in Searcy County. Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell said an investigation by his department and Twentieth Judicial District Prosecutor Carol Crews and her office began immediately into allegations of cyber bullying using the social media platform known as “Snapchat.”
