SC Fair to hold Fish Fry fundraiser

On Saturday, April 9 the Searcy County Fair Association will be holding a fish fry fundraiser and meet and greet the candidates at the SC Fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the event. Local candidates will be in attendance to meet and greet residents. There will be no debates at this event. Dinner will consist of catfish, French fries, hush puppies, brown beans, and a dessert for $10. Plates can be made for dine-in or carry out. The proceeds of this event will be put towards the Fair. President of the Fair Association stated, “I appreciate the support of the community for supporting the Fair.”

Veterans Scholarships are available

Searcy County Veterans Memorial Association has announced the creation of the Marcus Tucker Memorial Scholarship. Doug Weaver of Witt Springs, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, told a small gathering that 2 $1000.00 scholarships would be awarded this year to graduating seniors of the 2 County high Schools, or seniors who live in Searcy County but attend another High School or is a homeschooled student of Searcy County.

MES teacher receives Garden grant

On Monday, March 14 Marshall Elementary teacher Loni Kelley applied for a garden grant from Farm Bureau. The Outdoor Classroom Garden Mini-Grant program is a $250.00 matching grant. Raised beds with see through sides are what’s being worked on. It’s important for the kids to learn where their food comes from but also important for them to see the growing process.
