The guest speaker will be Dr Brooks Blevins, Southern Missouri College, author of many books about the Ozarks, including about Searcy County. He has been a very welcome speaker in the past for the Searcy County Historical Society. His topic will be about politics in the Ozarks, especially Searcy County’s. For the better part of a century and a half after the Civil War, the political affiliations across the Ozarks were dictated by the events of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Using lots of maps of presidential elections, Blevins explains the political divides in the Ozarks between Republican and Democrat counties and explores the gradual decline of the Democratic Party in the region. All are invited. Coffee and nibbles will be available.
