SCSD superintendent announces retirement

Superintendent Alan Yarbrough has announced his upcoming retirement, effective June 30, 2022. Yarbrough made the announcement in the regular meeting of the Searcy County School District School Board on November 15, 2021. Yarbrough expressed how much he had enjoyed his 31 years in education, 27 of those at Searcy County School District, and feels blessed by being surrounded by teachers, administrators, school board members, district employees, and friends who desired the best for our students and district. Board members expressed their appreciation to him for his hard work and dedication.

BRCC tree planting in the park

On Tuesday, December 7 employees of the City of Marshall were assisted by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division, in planting 33 trees in the Raccoon Spring City Park. This project was funded by a $2,500 grant from the Buffalo River Conservation Committee which was part of $1,000,000 provided by the Governor for improvement projects within the Buffalo River watershed.

Arbor Day celebrated in Gilbert

On Thursday, December 2 Gilbert held the first Tree City Arbor Day. This Arkansas Forestry and city event was attended by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division personnel Mike Mowery of District Forrester, Mason Danheim the County Forester, Kenny Smothers the Urben Representative for D-9, the city Tree Board members, Mayor Chip Johnson, Jamie Craddock Johnson, Ben Fruehauf, Laura Peach, Jim and Dawn Clontz were all present for Gilberts first tree planting. A black gum was purchased from Custom Landscaping and Nursery in Mt. Vernon. Tree City will help Gilbert become better care takers of our trees for long term enjoyment with new plantings and learning to care for trees already in place.
