The Cozyhome Connection

Fall has begun and the temps have started to cool. Grass continues to grow, and the days are gradually getting shorter. We Arkansans, however, are used to summer leaving, returning, leaving, and sometimes returning again. Remember Genesis 8:22 (as long as the earth endures, summer and winter will never cease) and just enjoy the days as they come (Psalm 118:24!). As one neighbor stated, “Nothing we can do about the weather but gripe and griping doesn’t help anyway.”

MES “BEE”HAVIOR System

During the Marshall Elementary School open house, parents received a letter explaining the new behavior system that is currently being used. The system is called PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support). They will be focusing on three big rules. 1. Be respectful. 2. Be responsible. 3. Be safe. They will be recognizing students for following these rules with their Bobcat Bucks. Each week they will be drawing two winners from each grade level during their morning meetings. Here are the winners for September 2024.

Sunday weather was so nice and cooler all day. The kind of weather I enjoy, so long as it doesn’t get any warmer. Waiting on the great grands so they came play out in the yard raking leaf piles and jumping in them. Wanted to take them so they could swing on grape vines but got to find some first. Took two of my youngest grandsons so they could swing on grape vines. First it broke with them and didn’t think it was too funny to play on.

The Cozyhome Connection

This week we continue meeting the ‘old timers’ along Cozahome Road. I first met Dale Laffoon at the age of 13 when he came over the hill from his home to help out my family who had just had a flat at the end of his driveway. He was instrumental in my own move to the area as he had a brother-in law (Allen Watts) that had a home for rent further out the Cozahome Road. Dale had two young sons with him that day. Fast forward many years later, and the older of those sons helped me write this story for us today. Aubrey Dale Laffoon was born in Harrison, Arkansas in 1959, and has lived his entire life on his family’s 85acre farm at Cozahome. He married Teresa Milam Vickers from Dover, and between them they have 4 children: Dempsey, Gary, Sasha, a nurse in Mountain Home, and Andrew, who works at Ranger Boats in Flippin. They also have 10 grandchildren and 2 nephews that are like grandchildren AND three GREAT grandchildren!

Come October 31, there is extra mischief in the air, and who knows what might be lurking around those dim corners? Halloween is a time when the line between having fun and being scared is easily blurred. While trick-or-treating and attending parties are ways to enjoy the final day of October, there are plenty of other ways to make Halloween more fun.
