As you continue to drive out Cozahome Road, the last special place I want to call attention to is Turkey Pen Springs. The road becomes narrower and is mostly fit for only one car as a place wide enough to meet oncoming cars is hard to find, but once there you find a little circle driveway. Although I couldn’t find this amazing spring listed on the Searcy County topographical maps, it has been there for many years. I remember when I lived out here while in high school that very few people had wells and there was no city water so most of us got our drinking water from this spring. Some had elaborate pumps and tanks and hauled it home to fill wells or cisterns, but most of us just collected it with buckets and took what we could haul. The water was clear, cold, and tasted wonderful. No one thought about anything that might be ‘growing’ in it or the need to filter it.
Last Thursday I went to the Mountain Wave office and I visited with Charity Rolen there. I stopped by to visit Thereisa Jackson at the Medic Pharmacy. I came by to visit with Colleen Bell and she is doing ok. I seen one doe by the highway. The Arkansas Razorbacks will play UAP B, Arkansas won the football game, and the score Ark=70 and UAP=0. Diet and exercise are the key components of maintaining a healthy weight and protecting yourself against chronic disease. According to the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services, eating smart and being active have similar effects, including reducing risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, some cancers, and diabetes. In addition, these healthy living strategies can improve personal appearance and improve overall well-being - helping people live longer and maintain their independence.
Good morning and welcome to September. Cooler weather will soon be arriving, the days will grow shorter, and fall will be here soon.
Few people can resist the appeal of waffles. They’re tasty in the morning for breakfast, and equally at home in the afternoons or evening with chicken or ice cream accompanying them. Indeed, few foods can be enjoyed any time of day as easily as waffles.
Makes 3 or 4 waffles INGREDIENTS • 21/4 cups gluten-free flour (conventional all-purpose flour may be substituted; reduced by 2 tablespoons) • 1 teaspoon sugar • 11/2 teaspoons baking powder • 1/4 tablespoon salt • 1 cup room temperature oat milk or flax milk • 11/2 tablespoons melted butter or non-dairy butter • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar DIRECTIONS 1.Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the oat milk, butter, vanilla, and apple cider vinegar, then slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet, whisking to combine.
Happy belated Labor Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! As nice as it is, it makes it hard to go back to work on a Tuesday that feels like a Monday. Time for a little history lesson on the Snowball School, 1912-1939.
On Friday, May 23 Searcy County Deputies were notified that an individual was firing a rifle on Annabelle Road. Upon arrival at the intersection of Harry Brown Road and Annabelle Road they made contact the victim and two juvenile females.
