Orville McInturff Remembered at Historical Society

The Searcy County Historical Society will meet Friday, July 26, at 7:00 pm, in Marshall’s First Christian Church. James Johnston will give a survey of Orville McInturff and his writings. Orville McInturff had an interesting variety of interests: as a builder, a politician and as Searcy County’s first historian. He is known for his books: “Searcy County, My Dear: A History of Searcy County, Arkansas” and “A History of Searcy County Schools, and their relation to the economic development of the county.” But he also wrote the results of his other research, which was never published. Johnston will read some of his other writings, as well as tell some of his reminiscences of Orville. Others will be invited to tell their memories of Orville.

Around our town

Hello to all of you Marshall Mountain Wave readers and greetings from the Jewel of the Ozarks, Leslie, Arkansas. We finally got some blessed rain a good full night and day of gentle, cooling, earth quenching rain. It had been relentlessly hot and dry for a few weeks, but this rain was everything. The next morning was very cool with very thick fog that you could not see but a few feet in front of you. I hope it stays cool for a couple of more days it is good to get a breath in between heatwaves.

Ask the Professional

My grandmother is having difficulties taking care of herself, so she will probably need in-home assistance soon. I believe Arkansas Medicaid could pay for that care, but we might have to wait to get it. Is that true?

The Cozyhome Connection

I hope everyone had a great week and made lots of great memories to carry forward and share. Our country’s birthday always seems a little low-key to me as so much ‘ado’ is made of fireworks and cookouts. Hope you celebrated the fact that we live in an amazing country and are so very favored that this is the country our Lord chose for us to live in. We were blessed to entertain both our daughters and two of our granddaughters from Tennessee over the holiday. We also had several siblings and cousins who live nearby in Arkansas visit us in order to spend some time with them. As I’m sure it was at your house, there was lots of food eaten around here!

Newbie no more

After all my carping about the need for rain, I would be remiss to not say thanks to the Lord and Hurricane Beryl for sending us right at 4 inches. The people who bought our house in Paron were from Washington state so when the first hurricane after their move was predicted to be still a tropical storm by the time it got to Paron, I called with instructions. They were surprised, having actually looked at maps, that Arkansas got such things.

Big Flat Buzz

Good morning and welcome to July. Already we are facing horribly hot weather. I know it’s going to get hotter, and I hope to spend more time at the creek. I miss being able to go to Big Creek, for my childhood we all used to load up the truck and headed for a day filled with sun, fun, and watermelon. I miss going to Big Creek but thanks to some people for going in and leaving trash behind, the public can’t come swim any more. A handful of people had to ruin it for everyone!
