Old town St. Joe
I have had a lot of comments about J.R. McCutshion. J.R. drank a lot but he never really hurt anyone even though he had scars all over his face and upper torso from knife fights and the older widows were scared to death of him At the time the road from new town to old town came down 373 to Oklahoma, then down Tennison. Many residents lived on their path. J.R. would walk home down this route, when he got to the corner of Oklahoma and Tennison he would say to his young boys “watch me put out the lights in the houses” and he would let out a loud yell and off went the widow women’s lights. At this time the post yard was located where woods station is located and behind it was a large pool of creosote, used in threating the post. One night while drunk J.R. fell in the pool. He looked like a yeti or big foot. It took weeks of lime and gallons of coal oil to remove it.
