Hope that you had a good week. Larry and I have been working in my garden. It is looking real good. It has been good weather to work outside. I have been making lettuce salad. We need rain in the garden. Larry has been watering the garden every night. You can see it in the tomato plants.
We are excited to announce that the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas (AAANWA) is commemorating 45 years of dedicated service. Since 1979, we have been committed to enhancing the lives of seniors in Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Searcy, and Washington Counties. Our mission is to improve the lifestyle of individuals aged 60 and older, as well as provide essential services to military veterans and persons with disabilities.
Hard to figure out where to start this week. The beginning of last week wasn’t that bad. I found out that I won an award for the Arkansas Press Association for “Best Dressed Front Page.” My husband and I decided that we are going to go to Jonesboro next weekend for the Arkansas Press convention where I’ll receive my award. We are going to take the kids and do some stuff with them when I’m not at the convention. Not too bad right?

Sometimes it is nice to get an update and hear about good things that are happening. Today I wanted to take an opportunity to spotlight our own youth and their recent involvement in a great 4H program. Some of you may remember a program called 4H O’Rama. This program gives our young people the opportunity to compete in multiple categories demonstrating knowledge, skills, and public speaking. O’Rama happens at three different levels. The first level is the county level. This year our Searcy County O’Rama happened on May 28 at the Searcy County Extension office. We had nine young people participate with participants in all three age groups, Clover Buds, Juniors, and Seniors. The next level of O’Rama is district, which for our district happens in Clarksville, AR at University of the Ozarks. This year district O’Rama was June 18, and we had three Searcy County young people participate. I am thrilled to report that our youth made us proud. The three young people we took were the Beckwith youth, accompanied by their sister, Hannah, and mom, Joni Beckwith, who is the volunteer leader of our Witts Springs club called the Hillbilly Mountain Toppers. Jeremiah and his sister Miriam, who are both senior 4Hers, placed in Crop and Weed ID, and will be going on to state O’Rama. Sam Beckwith, their younger brother, also placed in the Junior category for Crop and Weed ID. Juniors do not advance to state, but we are proud of all three of these siblings that succeeded at District O’Rama.
