Milkweed, again Driving down Zack Road the other day I saw an attractive young couple out digging up the orange butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa). I had begged for the life of that particular bunch of milkweed since the contractor for Petit Jean Electric was doing a weed spraying thing all along the road and on properties under power lines. When he figured out I didn’t own that land, I was pretty sure I lost the battle but it has been glorious this year so I know he took pity on me or the butterflies. I will tip my hat to him for not spraying and letting that survive.

Around 1955 a family moved to Gilbert from Forrest City with three girls and a boy. One of these girls turned out to be considered the very best girls basketball players in the state and was invited to play with the famous “Red Heads” ball team, but she refused in order to go to Marshfield.

June 12th Well, hope this finds all of you doing fine. Ray and I are well. We have been enjoying Ray’s Garden way too much! Oh my, we’ve had squash, fried squash, potatoes, carrots, cucumbers oh they have been so good! I hope you are enjoying your garden as much as we are ours. Ray has given away lots and we have eaten lots too. I made 4 jars of squash relish last week. And one night Ray grilled pork chops and we cooked squash, onions, carrots and potatoes topped with butter and wrapped up in Reynolds wrap on the grill. Oh now that was some good eaten! Several orioles have been coming to the feeder. I have seen more females the last couple days. The house finches have been coming again. They all like the jelly in the jelly feeder. The purple martins have been soaring in the sky and singing lately. Sometimes they get so high you can barely see them. I found a tiny striped lizard by the vent in the house by the patio. A while back I saw a gray post lizard in the barn. When I was a kid we used to catch them and play with them. There was a good crowd at church Sunday, June 9, 2024. The Sunday School golden text was Judges 4:14; “And Deborah said unto Barak, ‘Up! for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee?”. The choir special was “He Didn’t Bring Us This Far TO Leave Us”. Pastor Jim and Diana Arnold sang “The Blood Is Still There” for a special.” The scripture for communion service was I Corinthians 11:23-29. The scripture for today’s service was Isaiah 6:1-2, Romans 8:32, Luke 3:13.
