Leslie During the 1920s
The Roaring Twenties, now a full century past, swept America in the years following World War I, but the decade did not roar equally throughout the country. In some areas the decade hardly sighed, let alone roar. The era, also known as the Jazz Age, was primarily an urban movement where the times were manifested in a youth oriented society with mass media, mass marketing, and mass culture. It was a time of loosened morals, an unprecedented booming economy, and in the words of William Allen White, a full decade of “ballyhoo”, or what we would call nonsense, such as flagpole sitting and marathon dancing. In Leslie the Roaring Twenties unfolded much differently than they did through much of the rest of the country.
