Leslie During the 1920s

The Roaring Twenties, now a full century past, swept America in the years following World War I, but the decade did not roar equally throughout the country. In some areas the decade hardly sighed, let alone roar. The era, also known as the Jazz Age, was primarily an urban movement where the times were manifested in a youth oriented society with mass media, mass marketing, and mass culture. It was a time of loosened morals, an unprecedented booming economy, and in the words of William Allen White, a full decade of “ballyhoo”, or what we would call nonsense, such as flagpole sitting and marathon dancing. In Leslie the Roaring Twenties unfolded much differently than they did through much of the rest of the country.

Where has the time gone? I have intentions every week to sit down and type this article, but it doesn’t happen. It hits me Thursday morning as I’m driving to work that I forgot and at that point there’s no way to pull something together. But I’ll give it a whirl this week.

Searcy County Humane Society will be hosting a first meet and greet adoption event in the parking lot of Marshall Milling on the morning of Saturday June 15, 2024. You can get to know our adoptable Dogs, meet our volunteers, and learn more about our clinics. We will have 6 to 10 dogs for you to see and get to know.
