On Saturday, May 18 the Searcy County Quilt Guild presented Searcy County Veterans with Quilts of Valor. Each quilt is handmade either by machine or hand quilted. It’s awarded to a veteran who has been touched by war. Many of the veterans were moved to tears knowing how much they meant to the group of ladies. A total of eight quilts were presented and two were not present due to illness, but they will be presented with their quilts in November. There will be an Ancestor Fair in 2024. The Searcy County Historical Society is preparing to host the 33rd North Arkansas Ancestor Fair Friday and Saturday, May 31and June 1, 2024 in Marshall, Arkansas. Sometimes described as a place to brag on your ancestors, it is a gathering of family genealogists and historians–and just plain interested folks–to share genealogical and historical information–and old family stories–about families and communities. Historical/ genealogical societies, libraries, family historians and descendant organizations help researchers (or seekers) with information not commonly on the Internet. Visitors from all over the country learn from locals about their forefathers. In 2022 a man from Hawaii met the daughter of his father’s best friend. He was amazed at the number of people who knew his family’s history.
