Sheriff Cassell collaborates with Gilbert to Raise Awareness

Sheriff Kenny Cassell and the Town of Gilbert collaborated on Monday, April 8, 2024 eclipse day with a food concession in town. The money collected to go to the Arkansas Sheriff Youth Ranch. The event not only provided an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy delicious treats but also aimed to raise awareness about the vital role played by the youth ranch in supporting atrisk children and the need for financial assistance.

Apple trees The time was when I would have given my eye teeth for an apple tree. They conjured up visions of snowy pink blossoms, crisp apples in fall, apple pie. Not so anymore. I meant to go to an apple grafting class offered by our excellent county extension office– I unfortunately had to miss due to a schedule conflict after all– but the biggest problem I foresaw was that it came with the gift of an apple tree to take home. I needed another apple tree like I needed another cat. I love my cats and I love my four apple trees, I just don’t need any more for the same reason, that they will work you half to death. When we moved here, the trees set about producing apples with a fury. I decided to up my game and learn better how to nurture them.

SC Retired Teachers to Meet

Searcy County Retired Teachers will meet May 10th at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall at 11:30am. Lunch will be served by the United Methodist women's group for $12. Drinks and desserts are included. The program for this meeting will be presented by Mitch Cash from The Estate and Elder Law Practice of Marshall, Arkansas. He will give information and answer questions on trusts and wills. Retired school personnel are encouraged to attend.

April 24 Not much news this week. Sunday after church Don and I drove to Big Flat to eat at “T’s” Tiny Dinner. The food is so good. Teresa had a packed-out parking lot. We had a fish platter and ate with the Cartwrights, 2 families of Chadwicks, Ricky and Brenda Freeman celebrating her birthday. Happy birthday, Brenda. And the Freeman’s children and grandchildren.
