James Summerhill of Hensley

James Lawton Summerhill, Sr, 82, of Hensley, Arkansas, died on November 25, 2021. He was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas to Margaret Lee (Waltman) Summerhill and Horace Ruben Summerhill on February 10, 1939.
He lived in Leslie, Arkansas all of his childhood and graduated from Leslie High School. He joined the Airforce on August 8, 1957, as a mechanic, and served for five years, when he was honorably discharged in 1962.
He retired as a Letter Carrier and he received his 50 year pin last month. He was a Mason Master in the Iron Springs Lodge 342 as well as a Shriner. He enjoyed square dancing, deer hunting, spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, bee-keeping, Leslie homecoming and giving the nurses a hard time.
Survivors include his former wife (Linda) and their three sons’, Paul (Vanessa) Summerhill of Murphysboro, Tennessee; James (Raquel) Summerhill of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Daniel (Kristy) Summerhill of Hensley, Arkansas, seven grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his baby sister Elizabeth Jackson of Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his wife (Shirley), Margaret Summerhill (mother), Horace Summerhill (father), 5 siblings (Othelene Russell, Floyd Summerhill, Phyllis McEwen, Linda Badger, and Mildred Higgins) and a host of friends and relatives who shaped his life.
Graveside funeral services was held at Leslie Cemetery on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. There was a private viewing at 11:00a.m. for family at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas.
